Recycling
EcoMag extracts 98% of the magnesium content from an existing waste stream. The elemental composition of the EcoMag’s residual bittern flow is substantially closer to that of seawater than the unharvested bitterns in terms of both relative and absolute levels.
Sustainability
Magnesium is the eighth most abundant element in the earth’s crust, and the third most abundant element dissolved in seawater. As such the supply of magnesium from seawater is sustainable and effectively inexhaustible.
Reduced CO2 emissions
EcoMag commissioned a detailed life cycle analysis from the German Aerospace Center comparing CO2 emissions produced by its competing processes. This confirmed that EcoMag has lower CO2 emissions than the comparable processes in all scenarios.
Minimum Impurities
Sourcing magnesium from seawater ensures that EcoMag’s products are extremely low in the contaminants that are often found in magnesium compounds derived from magnesite ores.
